  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Boehly and Clearlake Capital arrived at Chelsea in 2022 to become the club's new owners, taking over from Roman Abramovich at Stamford Bridge. A rift has since appeared to develop between Boehly's camp and Clearlake Capital, with the American believed to be keen to buy-out co-owner Behdad Eghbali.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Boehly has lost power since the takeover and only has a 12.8% stake of Chelsea, while Clearlake owns a majority 61.5% stake in the club. Tensions between the two parties have been rising but it's believed Boehly would have to find another "£2-3 billion" to buy out Eghbali. Boehly has now been asked if would wants an enhanced role at the club and appears happy with his current situation.

    He told the Qatar Economic Forum: "Increase my role? I think chairman is a pretty good one! I can't play! Maybe I'll go as striker, see how the fans think about that!"

The Blues take on Real Betis in the final of the Conference League and take on Nottingham Forest in their final Premier League game, knowing a victory will secure Champions League football for next season.
