Sir Jim Ratcliffe refusing to be held to ransom over Bryan Mbeumo as Man Utd transfer stalls due to new Brentford asking price

The Guardian claims that Brentford have raised their Mbeumo asking price by £5m to £70m, but United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not prepared to go above the club's £65m ($87m) valuation. The Bees' new price tag is said to have been met with 'resistance' by Ratcliffe and director of football, Jason Wilcox.

If United acquiesce to Brentford's demands, Mbeumo would be one of their biggest-ever signings. But if they fail to recruit the attacker, it may be another sign that the Red Devils no longer have the pull they once did.

The report adds that Mbeumo told Brentford he wanted to join United, and at the end of June, Ratcliffe and Wilcox believed a £65m package would secure the 25-year-old's services. But now, the Bees are digging their heels in.

If United - who have struggled for signings this summer - up their offer for Mbeumo, they may reportedly want money from the sale or loan of one of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, or Tyrell Malacia.
