    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Per Rossi, Ferguson will be taking the role of coach once again. The role will be for one of the teams in the former Manchester United striker's testimonial farewell at Stadio Artemio Franchi, the home of former club Fiorentina. Rossi spent three years at Old Trafford early in his career before moving to Villarreal, while he retired in 2023 after playing for a number of Serie A clubs.

    WHAT ROSSI SAID

Speaking to the media, Rossi said: "Ferguson will be there as a coach. He was my first coach, I signed when I was 17.

"I only did three years with him and played little, but he immediately said yes and this shows what kind of person he is. I did little at United but he treats me like Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 1000 goals."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR FERGUSON?

Rossi's farewell will be played on March 22. Ferguson will be one of several legendary names present, with Luca Toni, Antonio Cassano, Sebastien Frey and Gabriel Batistuta also in line to play some role.
