Roy Keane tells Erling Haaland he's reached 'Championship level' after scoring return for Man City as Man Utd legend appears to backtrack on 'League Two player' jibe

Haaland returned from injury to help City strengthen their Premier League title bid with a crucial goal against Nottingham Forest. The former Borussia Dortmund man was fed by Kevin De Bruyne and shifted the ball onto his right foot before burying the ball in the Nottingham Forest to kill the game. He earned the praises of Keane, who previously branded him a 'League Two level' player.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Keane said: "He was very much like a Championship player, he has improved a lot! In terms of a goalscorer he is absolutely amazing, there's no doubting his quality in terms of his finishing. When he's coming on he will want to have an impact on the game and when it's stretched like that he's got people like De Bruyne, he's going to find you and then it's just that bit of sharpness which he has shown."

City were not at their best against Forest but showed the determination of champions to get the win. They move to within one point of Premier League leaders Arsenal, who recorded a huge derby day victory against Tottenham earlier in the day. Pep Guardiola's side can go two points clear of the Gunners at the top if they win their game in hand.

City will host Wolves on Saturday and have a full week to prepare having exited the Champions League recently. They may have to do without goalkeeper Ederson, who was subbed off at half-time following a clash with Willy Boly that left the Brazilian in a considerable amount of pain.
