Revealed: Why Barcelona want Aston Villa to complete January transfer amid financial crisis at Camp Nou

Villa are reportedly trying to sign versatile Celta Vigo defender Mingueza in January, which could help Barcelona financially. According to Mundo Deportivo, the 25-year-old, who joined Vigo from Barca in 2022, has a €20 million (£16.5m) release clause, and if he is sold, 50 per cent of those funds will go to the Catalan outfit.

Barcelona have tried and failed to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season but they do not have the funds to do so at present. Therefore, a cash injection such as Mingueza's would be a welcome boost and can help solve the Spanish team's financial concerns.

The report claims that Barca have an option to buy their former academy player back for €10m (£8.5m) but they won't do that as they need to urgently raise funds to register Olmo and Victor.

Amid these financial troubles, Barca are next in La Liga action on January 18 away to Getafe.
