Revealed: Why Man Utd could still pull off stunning transfer moves for Matthijs de Ligt & Jarrad Branthwaite - even after huge £52m Leny Yoro deal

The Red Devils are set to beat Real Madrid to the signature of the highly-rated 18-year-old French defender, who flew into Manchester on Wednesday for a medical to finalise a £52m ($68m) move. United, however, are still interested in other defensive targets.

And the fact they have signed Yoro does not mean they are less likely to pursue deals for Bayern Munich centre-back De Ligt or Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite. GOAL understands that although the deal for Yoro has moved ahead, De Ligt and Branthwaite are both still admired by United. They remain options to sign subject to having budget and squad space available as the transfer window evolves.

Yoro, who joined Lille's academy when he was just six years old, overtook Eden Hazard as the second-youngest player to play for the club when he made his debut against Nice aged 16 years, six months and one day. He scored his first goal for the club aged 17 and made 30 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, helping the team finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Yoro is due to become United's second signing of the summer after Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee arrived from Bologna. He is due to join the club on their tour of the United States. In the meantime, United will look to further add to the squad before the new Premier League season begins on August 16 at home to Fulham. They have had two bids for Branthwaite rejected by Everton, the latest worth up to £50 million ($64m). De Ligt, who had a hugely successful period at Ajax under Erik ten Hag, is valued at €50m (£42m/$54m).
