Revealed: Joshua Zirkzee's preferred Man Utd shirt number as Bologna forward edges closer to Old Trafford transfer

The Dutch international is inching closer to a £36 million ($46m) transfer from the Italian side to United, with the 23-year-old reportedly set to sign a five-year deal until 2029. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg states that Zirkzee is undergoing a medical on Friday, and that he is 'proud' to join the Red Devils and wants the No.9 jersey.

United have been looking for another forward to complement striker Rasmus Hojlund and it looks like now they have their man in Zirkzee. The 6'4" attacker will hope to play his part in firing Erik ten Hag's men up the Premier League table and competing for the biggest trophies once more.

Zirkzee began his career at Bayern Munich but struggled for game time at the German giants. Loan spells at Parma and Anderlecht followed before he signed permanently for Bologna in 2022. Since then he has scored 14 goals and bagged nine assists in 58 appearances.

If this transfer goes through, he will be unveiled as a United player soon. He will then head off for a shorter summer break following the Netherlands' exit from Euro 2024, before returning to the Red Devils for pre-season in the coming weeks.
