'You are my inspiration' - Neymar receives heart-warming message from his son after tearful reaction to Santos' 6-0 hammering from Vasco da Gama as Brazil star vows 'Dad will get back on his feet'

Neymar was reduced to tears by Santos' defeat to Vasco as the superstar suffered one of the worst losses of his career. The 33-year-old admitted he was "ashamed" after the final whistle and said it was "a disgrace to play that kind of game wearing a Santos jersey."

The defeat keeps Santos mired in the battle to avoid relegation and saw manager Cleber Xavier given the sack shortly after the match. Neymar's emotional reactional was clearly felt by his family, with his eldest son David Lucca taking time out to post a message to his father in a show of support.

Neymar shared on Instagram a message he had received from his son, which read: "Good evening, Dad. I know today has been a difficult day for you and for us, but I wanted you to know that in these difficult moments, and when no one is by your side, know that I will always be there for you. You are more than a great father, you are an idol, you are my inspiration, and even when you cry, I want you to know that I love you very much. Always keep that in mind. (…) Now, I want you to hold your head high and reach out to them as you always have and will. You are incredible. I love you with all my heart."

The Brazil international replied: "I love you, my little one. Dad will get back on his feet."

Santos will aim to bounce back from their devastating defeat when they take on Bahia on Sunday but will be without Neymar for the clash. The Brazilian superstar will miss the game after being booked against Vasco and picking up a one-match ban.
