Mason Greenwood's future tasks fresh twist as Man Utd forward holds ‘positive’ talks over move to Marseille to link up with Roberto De Zerbi

The 22-year-old has been linked with clubs across Europe since starring on loan at Getafe in the 2023-24 campaign. He was named Player of the Year there after registering 10 goals, with the La Liga outfit understandably keen to put another deal in place.

They are considered to sit some way down the recruitment pecking order, with the likes of Juventus, Lazio, Valencia, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid all being credited with interest. United are expected to sanction another move in the summer transfer window, with there no way back for Greenwood at Old Trafford.

According to The Athletic, Ligue 1 giants Marseille have joined the race for Greenwood’s signature. They are said to have “held positive dialogue” with the one-cap England international – who is now favouring a move to France after previously expressing a desire to return to Spain.

A switch to Marseille could see Greenwood work with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, as he is lined up to take the reins at Stade Velodrome. United, though, are in no rush to sanction a sale and could welcome a product of their famed academy system back into Erik ten Hag's squad for the start of pre-season training before any deal is done – with there still the option to trigger a 12-month contract extension and put another loan agreement in place.
