Man Utd open Ivan Toney transfer talks as Brentford hope to drive bidding war with Chelsea

According to The Standard, United have enquired about the 28-year-old but negotiations are not yet a serious stage and no offer has been submitted. The report states Brentford are hopeful interest in the England international could lead to a bidding war.

Chelsea reportedly made a move to sign the former Peterborough United star this week, who is now valued at around £40 million ($52.8m). Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli had a bid rejected for Toney - who is in the last year of his contract. The Bees ace could yet get his dream transfer move after all.

Toney, who was left out of Brentford's first two Premier League games this season due to the transfer speculation surrounding him, has scored 72 goals in 141 games for Thomas Frank's men since signing in 2020 from Peterborough.

The summer transfer window shuts on Friday night, so time is running out for Toney to secure a permanent move elsewhere. If not, he could return to Brentford action on Saturday against Southampton.
