  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Los Blancos came back from behind twice to beat Manchester City 3-2 in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 play-off at Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland opened the scoring for City in the first half before Kylian Mbappe netted the equaliser on the hour mark. Haaland then completed his brace from the penalty spot in the 80th minute, but the hosts' celebrations were short-lived as Brahim Diaz equalised and then Bellingham netted the winner in injury time.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bellingham's last-gasp strike was the third time Madrid have scored a 90th-minute winner against the Cityzens, thereby setting a Champions League record. In the 2021-22 season, the Spanish giants came back from a two-goal deficit on aggregate to score three times after the 90-minute mark to qualify for the final.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

One of the key City stars who came under scrutiny after the match was goalkeeper Ederson, whose performance left many supporters frustrated. The Brazilian was at fault for Madrid’s second equaliser and questions were asked about his decision-making after Bellingham's winner.
