Liverpool staff's Christmas party shut down as drug paraphernalia found in cathedral toilets following medical emergency

The event, hosted at Liverpool Cathedral, saw hundreds of Liverpool staff members gather to celebrate the festive period in an illustrious setting, with red lights and decorations everywhere and the club crest projected onto the chapel windows. It wasn't all a sophisticated affair, though; according to the Daily Mail, the venue's bar was closed early after a medical emergency caused security staff to search the toilets of the venue, where 'drug paraphernalia' was reportedly found.

The medical emergency interrupted a super-glitzy affair designed to reward staff for their contributions to an extremely successful year for Liverpool; the Merseyside club are currently top of the Premier League table and Arne Slot's first few months have been plain sailing. This extravagant party was all about thanking non-football staff for their efforts, so it's thought that neither the head coach or any of his players were present.

In response to the evening's events, a spokesperson for the club said: "We do not condone or tolerate the use of illegal substances at any of our sites or events. We thank the events team at the venue for their swift action and professional response to the medical emergency which was unrelated. The member of staff is recovering well."

A few of the club's non-football staff may have woken up with a sore head, but Slot's players will be keeping as fresh as possible ahead of a difficult game against Marco Silva's high-flying Fulham side on Saturday. A 3pm kick-off at Anfield, the fixture will give the Reds a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points with a win.
