Liverpool face £13m bill to appoint Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp's successor this summer as Feyenoord take firm stance in negotiations

Liverpool made their first approach for the Feyenoord boss on Wednesday - which was swiftly knocked back by last season's Eridivisie champions.

According to the Daily Mail, the initial compensation package offered was said to be around £7.5m ($9m) but Feyenoord are looking for a figure in the region of £8.6m ($11m) to release Slot from his contract. The overall sum could reach over £13m ($16m), due to his desire to bring a number of his backroom staff with him to Anfield.

The 45-year-old head coach looks 'certain' to bring his assistant manager Sipke Hulshof to England with him - while he is also considering head of performance Ruben Peeters and analyst Etienne Reijnen.

However, Feyenoord are wary of clearing out their entire backroom team and will reportedly stand 'firm' against Slot's effort to bring them to the Premier League.

“It seems clear to me that I would like to work there,” Slot told ESPN when asked about the Liverpool role. “The clubs are negotiating, so I am still on hold. We are waiting for an agreement to be reached, but I am confident of that.

“Obviously it’s nice when a big club approaches you. It’s not the first time in the years I’ve been here at Feyenoord of course.

“At the same time there were still some very important matches coming up, including the cup final, so we focused fully on that first. We won that and then it got a bit more attention in the media. That’s just how it goes.”

For now, Slot remains in charge of Feyenoord and must prepare for the remaining games in the 2023/24 season. Slot's side will face PEC Zwolle on Sunday, as they look to close the nine point gap on league leaders PSV Eindhoven.
