'Wild west!' - Jurgen Klopp ridicules blue card plans as Liverpool boss reacts to getting his latest touchline booking against Burnley

Klopp was given a yellow card by referee Tim Robinson for protesting the decision to not award his side a penalty after Diogo Jota was pulled down in the box. The German and his Burnley counterpart, Vincent Kompany, were shown yellow cards in a game of high emotions - one which could have seen many a blue card brandished. Klopp spoke after the game at his disapproval of the new potential card system.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp said: "It was emotional, definitely. Imagine in this game and the referee has a blue card available? It would have been the wild west. There were so many yellow cards today. I had no clue why Vincent Kompany got it. I lost it in that situation so, fine, give me a yellow card. As long as I don't get a blue one and have to sit somewhere for 10 minutes!"

Klopp picked up just his second yellow card of the season, meaning he is one caution away from being suspended. Kompany, meanwhile, received his third yellow card of the season and will be banned from the touchline for his team's clash with Arsenal next weekend.

Klopp's side returned to the top of the Premier League with their 3-1 win over the Clarets after being temporarily dislodged from their perch by Manchester City's 2-0 win against Everton earlier in the day. Both City and Liverpool will be watching their title rival Arsenal's trip to West Ham tomorrow with victory for the Gunners meaning as little as two points separate the top three. Liverpool's next challenge is a trip to an Ivan Toney-invigorated Brentford next Saturday.
