Jurgen Klopp to manage Germany? DFB chief offer opens up on possibility of Liverpool boss replacing Julian Nagelsmann

Klopp announced that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season in a decision that sent reverberations across the footballing world. While the manager spoke of his desire to take a year-long sabbatical from football, the chance to become the new Germany manager may turn his head - an appointment the DFB would dream of.

Zimmermann said: "I don’t think we need to talk about the fact that Jurgen Klopp is a brilliant coach. We also don’t have to talk about the fact that he could also be a candidate for national coach.

"But the time for making wishes like these was Christmas. After the European Championships we will talk about the national coach and not about what we might wish for. But I could well live with Jurgen Klopp, like many others I think."

Julian Nagelsmann is the current Germany head coach and will lead the side in the European Championship this summer. But with the young manager likely keen to return to club football, Klopp may be tempted to try his hand as the head coach of the national side. International football may give Klopp the less intense life he is searching for.

Klopp will lead his Liverpool side against Norwich in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow in what will be an intense final five months in charge. The Liverpool boss is fighting for four potential trophies and thoughts of international management will be a long way from his mind right now.
