  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Per Fabrizio Romano, United have reached an agreement with Bologna to secure Zirkzee's signature. The club will not pay his release clause but will instead pay €42.5m, The Athletic reports, with the Netherlands international to fly to Manchester ahead of a medical on Friday before he signs a five-year contract.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Zirkzee enjoyed a productive season in 2023-24, scoring 12 goals and registering seven assists in 37 games in all competitions. Bologna secured qualification to the Champions League after a fifth-placed finish in Serie A but Zirkzee will instead play for United next season.

    Zirkzee made his professional debut for Bayern Munich but only spent five seasons at the club, including two in which he was out on loan, first at Parma and then Anderlecht. He has won two caps for Netherlands, both of them coming at Euro 2024.

    United will hope to dot the i's and cross the t's as they finalise Zirkzee's signing. They are set to embark on a pre-season tour of the United States, where they will play Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool and Zirkzee is likely to be involved.
