    Cavallo became the first openly-gay male footballer when he came out in 2021, inspiring others to follow suit; Blackpool player Jake Daniels credited Cavallo's openness for leading to his own coming out. And Cavallo has now announced that he is engaged to his partner, Leighton Morrell, having proposed on the pitch at Coopers Stadium, where his club Adelaide United play their home games.

    Cavallo posted a heartfelt Instagram message, reading: "Starting this year with my fiance. Mr and Mr coming soon. Thank you Adelaide United for helping set up this surprise.

    "Your endless support has meant so much to me. You have provided a safe space in football, one that I never in my dreams thought could ever be possible and encouraged me to live every day of my life authentically. It felt right to share this special moment on the pitch, where it all started."

    While Cavallo is one of the most notable LGBTQIA+ names in Australian sport, his now-fiance has a far more down-to-earth profession: he is an electrician. In inspired fashion, on Instagram, he goes by the name the 'Sparkly Sparky'.
