This is what a heated derby pressure can do! However, Fernandes was under no pressure. He started a move by passing to his centre-back Stephan Ambrosius, who sprayed it square to team-mate Guilherme Ramos. The defender then miscued his back pass to the keeper and to prevent a corner, Fernandes attempted to clear his lines. But as he lashed out, in no control whatsoever, the ball ended up in his own net leaving the keeper distraught after his hilarious error.

St. Pauli were already leading by a goal after former Hull forward Jackson Irvine opened the scoring after 15 minutes. And Fernandes' shocking mistake added to their advantage in the 27th minute. Despite the setback, Hamburg fought back, with Robert Glatzel halving the deficit in the 58th minute and Immanuel Pherai equalising just two minutes later, salvaging a point for Hamburg in the derby.
