It has been announced, after several years of speculation, that former England captain Beckham is to be knighted. His work in football and for various charitable causes around the world is being recognised.

Beckham, who was awarded an OBE in 2003 and recently celebrated his 50th birthday, has admitted he "never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour". He went on to say that it will "take a little while for the news to sink in but I’m immensely proud and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family".
Neville has said of seeing his close friend become a knight of the realm: "Wow, Sir David Beckham! Congratulations mate. You deserve it and I’m so happy for you. Take time to reflect on everything you’ve done in an incredible 50 years!"
