Former USMNT boss Bruce Arena reinstated by MLS after workplace misconduct suspension amid DC United job links following Wayne Rooney exit

Arena resigned from his post as manager of the New England Revolution in September following an investigation into allegations he made insensitive and inappropriate remarks. However, he has now been reinstated by MLS Commissioner Don Garber and could return in time for the 2024 season, according to Fox Sports.

There is speculation that Arena could now head to D.C. United in time for the new season. The manager's position at the club is vacant following Rooney's decision to quit and return to England with Championship side Birmingham City. Arena had also been linked with Charlotte FC, but the club have recently appointed former Aston Villa manager Dean Smith as first-team coach.

Arena managed D.C. United in the 1990s before taking over the USMNT. The manager won back-to-back MLS Cups and a CONCACAF Champions Cup title in his two years at the club. The 72-year-old also still has the most wins and play-off wins of any coach in MLS history.

An official announcement on Arena's reinstatement could be made as early as next week. It remains to be seen what his next move will be and if he will return to D.C. United for a second spell.
