  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Dutch manager boldly claimed that United have been the most successful club in England in terms of winning trophies after Manchester City since he took charge of the club in 2022. The Red Devils ended their six-year-long trophy drought in the 2022-23 season when they lifted the Carabao Cup beating Newcastle United in the final. In the last campaign, they won the FA Cup title by beating Manchester City.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Manchester club saw several activities in the recently concluded transfer window, bringing in five new players, including marquee signings like Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte. Ten Hag remains confident that the team will perform over the course of time and will finish among the top four teams in the Premier League this season.

  • WHAT ERIK TEN HAG SAID

Speaking to Manutd.com, the 54-year-old said, "Listen, we won, the last two years, behind City, the most trophies in English football, so we performed already the last two seasons. And we are… Listen, listen, listen to me. That is the reality, they are the facts. And, yeah, also this year, we want to win and we want to win trophies.

"And so I'm quite confident we will build to this. And that is what I did the last 11 years. So just [be] patient, waiting. We will work on the process and we have to improve the process. And we will aim for our next targets and we will go for trophies."

When asked about the criticism over his playing style, the Dutchman responded by saying, "But that is very subjective. So there is only one thing in football, that's about at the end of the season if you win prizes, trophies, or not. And I repeat myself, after City, we won the most trophies in English football."
