Evergreen Lionel Messi still ‘dazzles’ Argentina team-mates in training – with World Cup winner playing with a smile again following MLS move to Inter Miami

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was considered to have completed his medal collection when inspiring the Albiceleste to World Cup glory at Qatar 2022. He has, however, completed a move to the United States since then and has new targets to chase down with Inter Miami.

Messi has already helped them to a Leagues Cup triumph, becoming the most-decorated player in the history of men’s football as a result, and has MLS Cup glory in his sights for 2024. The South American superstar is also looking to go back-to-back on the Copa America front.

He will have a crucial role to play in that tournament this summer, as captain of his nation, and fellow countryman Cristian Romero sees the all-time great playing with a smile on his face again as he continues to amaze those around him. Tottenham defender Romero has told DS Sports Radio: “It is always a pleasure to have him. He smiles and has a good time when he is with us. At Inter Miami we all see him very happy and for him to arrive that way is something nice. We grew up watching him. We are part of those cups that he needed to close his career. Every day he dazzles us more, in games and training sessions.”

Messi has taken his record-setting hauls of international caps and goals for Argentina to 180 and 106 respectively, with no retirement date being set as yet. He is showing in America, following a testing spell at Paris Saint-Germain, that he has lost none of his magic touch and could continue for several more years.
