Enzo Maresca explains reason for Chelsea owners' surprise dressing room visit after Blues slump to Brighton defeat

Former Arsenal and Manchester United star Danny Welbeck proved to be the star of the show for the Seagulls after his brace brought his side back into the game in the second half. The hosts took the lead through Enzo Fernandez's strike in the 24th minute and the Blues held on to their lead until the 77th minute, when Welbeck scored the equaliser. Maxim De Cuyper then put Brighton in front in the 92nd minute before Welbeck completed his brace in the dying minutes of the game.

Journalist Matt Law reported after the game that Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali, along with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, plus Joe Shields and Sam Jewell, marched into the Blues dressing room after the game, which raised a few eyebrows. 

Maresca, however, played down the incident, as he told reporters: "They have been inside the changing-room, like always. We have an office inside the changing-room, where after every game, we sit and we talk about the game. But they did not say anything to the players. It was nothing completely different compared to the rest of the games."

After Robert Sanchez was sent off during their 2-1 loss to Manchester United last week, another Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah was sent off against the Seagulls in the 53rd minute, which cost the Blues crucial points. The Blues are back in action on Tuesday in the Champions League against Jose Mourinho's Benfica.
