'Enjoy a drink with his pals' - Wayne Rooney revelling in life away from management after Man Utd legend was brutally sacked by Plymouth

Former England captain Rooney has endured a testing coaching career to date. Early promise shown in his first role at Derby County has been eroded across stints with D.C. United, Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle.

He lasted just 83 days alongside Tom Brady and Co at St Andrew’s, before taking in only 25 games in charge of the Pilgrims - having moved away from wife Coleen and their four children in order to take that job in Devon.

Rooney is now back on punditry duty, with there no pressure to deliver results there, and appears to be in no rush to head back to the dugout. Instead, the 39-year-old is making the most of free time that allows him to enjoy regular trips to Merseyside.

A source has told The Sun: "Wayne is really enjoying his down time while he waits for his next management job. He could afford to go anywhere in the world, but he is a frequent visitor to Croxteth. He loves it because he can be himself and enjoy a drink with his old pals."

Outside of his work covering Premier League and Champions League action, Rooney may soon be spending even more time on screens around the world as his family have reportedly agreed a £10 million ($13m) deal with Disney+ to star in an ‘At Home With’ documentary series.
