The Three Lions are readying themselves for a Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine in Poland on September 9 and a friendly date with neighbours Scotland three days later. Maguire has been called upon once again despite seeing no minutes at United in 2023-24, while ex-Liverpool captain Henderson gets the nod following his summer transfer to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq.

    WHO ELSE MADE THE CUT?

Elsewhere, Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah – who is the all-time leading scorer for his country at U21 level – is selected for the first time. Gareth Southgate has said of that decision: "It is an area where we'd like to have a look at him, really good pedigree, very good finisher... he's a player we are really interested in." Levi Colwill has been catching the eye at Chelsea, and is picked once again, while James Maddison retains his spot after enjoying a bright opening to his spell at Tottenham. Harry Kane, who has swapped life at Spurs for that at German giants Bayern Munich, will be hoping to add to his record-setting haul of 58 goals.

    WHO HAS BEEN LEFT OUT?

Surprisingly - given his start to the season – Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling misses out, while European U21 Championship-winning stars such as Morgan Gibbs-White and Cole Palmer – who is being linked with a move from Manchester City to Chelsea – are still waiting on senior call-ups. Southgate said on snubbing Sterling: "He was not available for the last two and that's given other people the opportunity to play well and establish themselves. It is a difficult call and Raheem is not particularly happy about it but I understand that." Chelsea full-back Reece James misses out through injury.
