Cristiano Ronaldo reveals his son's pick for best player in the world - and it's not CR7 or Lionel Messi

Portuguese superstar Ronaldo and Argentine icon Messi have spent two decades battling for supremacy at the top of the global game, winning 13 Ballons d’Or between them. Neither will be heading into retirement any time soon, but both are assured of standings among the all-time greats.

For many, the debate regarding who is the best is a straight choice between CR7 and Messi. That is, however, not the case in the Ronaldo household – with a new generation of talent beginning to catch the eye there.

Ronaldo has told La Sexta of being trolled by his own son, Mateo, but with the perfect response being delivered to claims that he no longer sits at the top of world football: “Mateo, he really likes [Kylian] Mbappe. He sometimes tells me: 'Hey dad, Mbappe is better than you,' and I reply by saying: 'No, I am better than him, I have scored more goals.'”

Ronaldo has surged beyond 900 goals in his remarkable career, with the plan being to reach 1,000 before any thought is given to hanging up record-shattering boots. World Cup winner Mbappe is following in his illustrious footsteps at Real Madrid, with the France international rediscovering his spark in 2024-25 after becoming another ‘Galactico’ at Santiago Bernabeu.
