    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Cucurella has made west London his home since completing a £55 million (€65m/$67m) switch to the Blues from Brighton in 2022. The defender has had a mixed spell during his time at the club with managerial changes and inconsistent form undermining his time at Chelsea. Despite patchy performances for Chelsea, the left-back excelled for Spain at the European Championships and provided the winning assist for Mikel Oyarzabal.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Cucurella believes his success for Spain against England in the final of the European Championship has made him suffer this season as a result. He claimed that he was a victim of a Premier League witch-hunt and believed English people were quick to jump on his back as a result. "Being champion of the Euros is historic and you will always take it with you. I've already been suspended for five yellow cards and I've committed few fouls; they're going after me a bit. They jump on me quickly, especially when we play away. It's normal, we won, I was involved in the goal, I'm playing at their home... it's normal, they're hurt,” he said.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CUCURELLA?

Chelsea have a weekend off after they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the previous round against Cucurella's former club Brighton. The Blues will play again in the Europa Conference League next week against Copenhagen as they look to lift the trophy in their first appearance in the competition.
