  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After centre-back Chalobah was forced to train away from Enzo Maresca's first-team squad in August, the Chelsea academy star joined Palace on a season-long loan. However, following injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, the Blues have recalled the 25-year-old. That has drawn the ire of many fans on social media, with some slamming the club for how they have treated the academy graduate.

    WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

@MaxLondonsFirst wrote on X: "Trevoh Chalobah might be the most proper chels player of all time. Gets banished from Cobham, agrees to come back from loan where he’d settled down because the club are desperate due to injuries and is going to get sold next summer. I don’t want to see any slander this season."

@yerdas_outV2 commented: "Chalobah is a better man than me is all I’ll say. Cos no way in hell I’m coming back after all that."

@MayowaQuadri_ tweeted: "Trevoh Chalobah's Chelsea story is one of pure resilience. Anytime he has been overlooked or shown the door, he has proved why that was the wrong decision. From Tuchel times to now under Maresca. Welcome back mate."

@cbwftbl put: "Recalling Chalobah after the way they treated him in the summer is just nothing short of embarrassing really."

@AlexGoldberg_ stated: "One of the saddest things about this Chalobah situation is not only did they banish him from the plane for the US Tour, but they also gave João Félix his no. 14 while he was literally still here, before he even went to Palace. Trev wears 14 in honor of his mum who passed away."

And @siphillipssport added: "In just six months, Chalobah has adapted to Enzo Maresca's football, whilst not playing for Enzo Maresca, at a different club to Enzo Maresca. What a magician. Clueless SD's (sporting directors) that need to go. Clueless owners who hired them, and still keeping them in their jobs. Embarrassing."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chalobah has been a regular for Palace, making 14 appearances over the past few months. Eagles manager Oliver Glasner said the defender "wants to stay" but it's a decision "Chelsea can take". Reports suggest he has been reassured he will play at Stamford Bridge when he returns this month, but his long-term future beyond the summer remains in doubt - particularly as they have repeatedly tried to sell him.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chelsea are next in action at home to lowly Wolves on Monday in the Premier League. Chalobah will hope to get game time in that contest but may find minutes harder to come by than he did at Palace.
