Two fans dead and police officer left in coma as violence erupts in Paris after PSG claim maiden Champions League crown with 559 arrested during celebrations

Paris Saint-Germain fans went haywire on the streets of the French capital as their team created history by registering the biggest-ever win in a Champions League final on Saturday in Munich. Desire Doue scored a brace while Achraf Hakimi, Senny Mayulu and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were on target as the Ligue 1 giants beat Inter 5-0 to lift their first-ever Champions League title.

PSG fans were accused of hooliganism before, during and after the final as massive cases of disorder were reported. The authorities were forced to deploy riot police and use tear gas as 559 people were arrested and two killed on the streets, according to a French minister.

The national police service have said that a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death during a PSG street party in the city of Dax, while the interior minister's office has confirmed that a man was killed in Paris when his scooter was hit by a car amid the celebrations, with investigations into both deaths now underway. Meanwhile, a police officer has been placed in an artificial coma after being accidentally hit by fireworks in northwest France, and has been left with grave eye injuries, the national police service have said.

In Grenoble, a car ploughed into pedestrians celebrating the PSG victory, which left four members of the same family injured, while a woman is currently fighting for her life.

A spokesperson of the Paris Police Prefecture told the Daily Mail: "There have been widespread scenes of disorder, and 131 arrests by midnight. The trouble has continued well into Sunday morning, and officers are mobilised around numerous flashpoints."

France's interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, wrote on X: "True PSG fans are getting excited about their team's magnificent performance. Meanwhile, barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris to commit crimes and provoke law enforcement. I have asked the internal security forces to react vigorously to these abuses. I offer my support to the Police Prefect and all the police officers who are ensuring everyone's safety this evening. It is unacceptable that it is not possible to party without fearing the savagery of a minority of thugs who respect nothing."

The Paris police chief has said that 192 people were injured around the capital, with four left in serious condition.

The PSG team is still expected to return to the capital for a victory parade on the Champs-Élysées on Sunday evening, with 110,000 fans permitted to attend in order to celebrate with Luis Enrique's squad.
