Borussia Dortmund make contact with Brighton star as Lyon look to challenge German giants to Argentine youngster

Dortmund have entered talks to sign Brighton attacking midfielder, according to reports from multiple outlets including Sky Sport. The 20-year-old Argentine, who spent last season on loan at Leicester, is under consideration for a transfer as Dortmund intensify their search for a creative player following the failed pursuit of Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri. Lyon have also opened negotiations for Buonanotte, setting up a transfer battle between the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 clubs. Both teams have made contact with the player's representatives, and Brighton are evaluating their options as discussions progress.

Buonanotte, who has been compared to Lionel Messi, fits Dortmund's preference for young, high-upside attacking talent adept in a number 10 or wide role. His development since moving from Rosario Central to Brighton has been tracked closely by the German side. Dortmund are seeking offensive reinforcements after missing out on their primary target and also facing competition from RB Leipzig for Chelsea's Carney Chukwuemeka. Lyon, who are seeking to add creativity amid an uncertain financial situation, view Buonanotte as a key target and hope to outmanoeuvre the Niko Kovac's team.

Buonanotte made 35 appearances for Leicester City last season, scoring six goals and providing three assists during his loan spell. Since joining Brighton in 2023, he has featured 50 times for the Seagulls, mainly as a right-sided creative midfielder, and is contracted until June 2028.
