He has 25 goal contributions in total for the 2024 season, becoming the fastest man in MLS history to hit that mark in a single campaign. Said record was snatched from former LAFC striker Carlos Vela, with Messi generating inevitable MVP talk with his superhuman efforts.

Gibbs is among those loving the sight of Messi in U.S. soccer, telling the Inter Miami Weekly Show of what makes the all-time great so special: “I’m not sure why we expected any less from the guy. He really is that guy, he was born to break records, he set the standard for world football and it’s just amazing to have him here. How many moments has he given us in this short space of time of him being here. Priceless moments, what a player, it’s a joy to watch and talk about him every week.”

While the Herons are delighted to have Messi on board, as they take aim at ultimate MLS Cup glory, they are without their talismanic No.10 at present – heading towards a clash with the Philadelphia Union on Saturday – as he is away on Copa America duty with Argentina.
