Barcelona hold ‘active interest’ in Mason Greenwood & La Liga transfer from Marseille ‘much more likely’ than Premier League return for ex-Man Utd forward

One-cap England international Greenwood, who is in the process of switching international allegiance to Jamaica, severed ties with Manchester United on a permanent basis in 2024 when completing a £27 million ($36m) move to Marseille.

His exploits in France - with only Paris Saint-Germain’s Ballon d’Or-contending striker Ousmane Dembele scoring more Ligue 1 goals this season - have attracted admiring glances from across Europe.

Atletico Madrid are said to be one of Greenwood’s suitors, while Barca are in the process of identifying potential additions to their attacking ranks. They are also monitoring Manchester United-owned Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa.

According to TBR Football, Greenwood may be offered the chance to head for Catalunya. It is claimed that there is “some interest” in the 23-year-old from Premier League teams, but a return to England is considered to be unlikely.

If a big-money deal is to be done over the coming weeks, as another transfer window prepares to swing open, then United will receive 50 per cent of any fee generated - with a sell-on clause included in the terms that took Greenwood to Marseille.
