Arsenal out to make amends for 248-day title surrender as Gabriel Martinelli sounds warning to Premier League rivals

The Gunners looked to be on course for a first top-flight triumph since the ‘Invincibles’ of 2003-04 when making their way to the top of the table last term. Mikel Arteta’s side appeared to be immovable objects, with consistency added to their game that had been lacking for the best part of two decades.

Arsenal were eventually chased down by Manchester City – en route to their historic Treble – but Arteta’s side have returned to the summit in 2023-24 and are determined to stay there. Martinelli has said: “We know we are top of the Premier League now. We want to be there; we want to be top of the Premier League for the rest of the season. We'll try our best. We tried our best (against Wolves), we kept going, we didn't start to play like it was already won. As I said, we tried our best to score another goal, but we didn't score. But the most important thing is three points.”

The Gunners battled their way to a 2-1 victory over Wolves in their latest Premier League outing, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard netting what proved to be match-winning goals inside the opening 13 minutes at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal hold a narrow two-point lead over Liverpool at the top of the division, with City a further point back, and they will be in action again on Tuesday when taking in a trip to Luton. They have testing meetings with Aston Villa, Brighton and Liverpool to come before Christmas.
