Arda Guler saga continues: Real Madrid unhappy with "generational talent" as they question his defensive work-rate and training attitude

Arda Guler is cutting a frustrating figure at Real Madrid and following the game against Girona, Ancelotti was asked about the 19-year-old, who was an unused substitute for the fifth game in a row.

Now, Relevo has reported that the Turkish youngster has fallen out of favour with the Real Madrid head coach, with his coaching staff questioning Guler's off-the-ball discipline and training work ethic.

Guler remains a key figure in Real Madrid’s long-term plans, widely regarded as a “generational talent” within Valdebebas. Despite high expectations from club officials and coaching staff, his role in the squad has yet to evolve significantly. Fans anticipated a breakout season, while team-mates expected him to rise to the challenge, but his impact has remained limited.

Concerns over Guler’s performances arose following his Copa del Rey appearance against Leganes, where video analysis highlighted issues with decision-making, tactical discipline, and pressing. His struggles to adapt to Madrid’s tactical demands have raised doubts within the coaching staff.

Additionally, Relevo reported that Carlo Ancelotti has concerns over Guler’s defensive commitment in training. While his technical ability is undisputed, Ancelotti expects greater intensity in defensive drills, often prioritizing defensive discipline over attacking prowess. Though Guler has shown signs of improvement and greater squad involvement, his progress remains inconsistent.

Having played a grand total of just 291 minutes in this calendar year, Guler will be hoping to convince Ancelotti in training this week ahead of two important fixtures. On Wednesday, Madrid travel to Basque side Real Sociedad for a Copa del Rey semi-final first leg meeting, followed by a trip to Real Betis on Saturday, March 1.
