Vanderbilt vs LSU news & key players

Vanderbilt Commodores team news

Vanderbilt's high-flying offense struggled against Alabama, with senior QB Diego Pavia going 21-for-35 for 198 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The Crimson Tide outgained the Commodores 486-333 and dominated time of possession by nearly 15 minutes, effectively stifling Vandy's rhythm. Pavia remains the heart of Vanderbilt's offense, throwing for 1,409 yards, 14 TDs, and four interceptions while also pacing the ground game with 352 yards and two scores on 60 carries.

Other playmakers include junior RB Sedrick Alexander (319 rushing yards, five TDs), senior TE Eli Stowers (323 receiving yards, two TDs), and junior WR Junior Sherrill (274 receiving yards, five TDs).

Offensively, Vanderbilt is a powerhouse, averaging 43.2 points per game (7th) and 467.5 total yards (20th), splitting the difference with 258.8 passing (48th) and a formidable 208.7 rushing yards (23rd). Their defense is solid but not spectacular, surrendering 19.3 points (35th) and 313.3 yards (32nd) per contest, including 222.5 passing yards (68th) and 90.8 rushing yards (16th).

LSU Tigers team news

LSU leaned heavily on its rushing attack against the Gamecocks, piling up 168 yards on 28 carries (6.0 YPC), but their third-down efficiency (4-for-11) and three turnovers suggest there's room for improvement. South Carolina racked up nearly 200 rushing yards but struggled through the air, throwing for just 4.6 yards per attempt and tossing an interception.

Senior QB Garrett Nussmeier orchestrates the Tigers' attack, totaling 1,413 passing yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Junior WR Aaron Anderson (23 catches, 305 yards) and senior WR Barion Brown (27 catches, 261 yards, 1 TD) are the primary aerial threats, while sophomore RB Caden Durham leads a ground game churning out 283 yards and two touchdowns.

Offensively, LSU is middle-of-the-pack, scoring 25.8 PPG (87th) and averaging 373.5 yards per game (78th), with a balanced mix of 258.5 passing (49th) and 115.0 rushing (114th). Defensively, the Tigers are elite, allowing just 11.8 points per game (5th) and 297 total yards (21st), including 194.5 passing yards (42nd) and 102.5 on the ground (21st).
