Team news & squads
CF Montreal team news
Montreal come into this fixture after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Toluca, which followed a penalty shootout win over Club León in their group opener. Head coach Marco Donadel’s side have struggled defensively, failing to keep a clean sheet in their last eight matches, and are currently among the leakiest teams in the East.
Still, the attack led by Prince Owusu - who has already surpassed his goal tally from last year, remains a threat. On the injury front, defender Samuel Piette is expected to be sidelined, and Fabian Herbers is also unavailable due to a recent setback in recovery. However, there is positive news for the back line as Jalen Neal has returned to training and could be available after missing time with an ankle injury.
Puebla team news
Puebla also enter the match needing a win after falling 3-1 to Columbus Crew in their previous group stage contest, despite starting the competition with a brilliant 3-0 win over New York City FC. Puebla’s away form has been poor, losing eight of their last nine games on the road.
There are some injury concerns: Franco Moyano and Edgar Guerra were forced off with injuries early in the loss to Columbus, and Denilson Paz was also withdrawn late, making them doubtful for the Montreal tie. Lucas Cavallini has been sidelined as well, so manager Pablo Guede may need to rely on squad depth, with Emiliano Gomez and Esteban Lozano likely earning more prominent roles after recent performances.
