'Pretty good for Tottenham' - Ange Postecoglou fires warning to Spurs over potential sacking as he admits he 'can't fight invisible opponent'

Spurs are just two places above the relegation zone after they suffered their 16th Premier League defeat of the 2024-25 campaign against Chelsea on Thursday. Enzo Fernandez scored the only goal of the match in the 50th minute to help his side reclaim their spot in the top four.

Postecoglou, who is fighting to save his job, fired a warning to his players that he might be sacked soon after yet another disappointing outing at Stamford Bridge. He also claimed that only winning the Europa League might help him keep his job at the north London club.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Spurs' clash with Southampton on Sunday, the former Celtic boss said: "If people don't really see what I'm trying to do, then I don't think they're ever going to see it, so if a trophy is the only way - it seems to be the only way - OK, let's see if we can deliver that. I've almost lasted two years, which is pretty good for Tottenham. At some point, the club needs to stick to something. There's life after this for everybody, including Tottenham and including me."

He added: "I'm a fighter, so the bigger the fight, the more I enjoy that challenge. But I can't fight against an invisible opponent, so that's the bit that's worn me down. I don't know how to tackle that. I can't tackle that."

Postecoglou's side will be back in action in the Premier League on Sunday as they host bottom club Southampton. Only a convincing win will temporarily alleviate the pressure on the Australian.
