Serie A top scorers 2023-24: Lautaro Martinez, Victor Osimhen, Christian Pulisic & players with most goals in Italy

The race for the 2023-24 Capocannoniere is over. Established superstars battled it out for the prestigious crown of the Italian top-flight's leading goal scorer.

Victor Osimhen stood head and shoulders above his Serie A colleagues in the top scorer stakes for the 2022-23 season, with his 26 goals firing Napoli to their long-awaited Scudetto. This season, however, the crown went to a different player.

The Nigerian hitman was amongst the contenders and rightfully so; he was outstanding in front of goal last season and carried over his form into the 2023-24 campaign. His nearest challenger was Inter's Lautaro Martinez, who missed out with 21 strikes to his name. However, the Inter Milan forward bounced back to be the the front-runner in the 2024-25 season, with 24 goals to his name.

Here, GOAL brings you the exploits of the most prolific marksmen in Serie A.

    1Lautaro Martinez | Inter | 24 goals

Lautaro Martinez is usually a guarantee to contend for the top-scorer crown in Serie A, but he took his poaching skills to another level after being handed the captain’s armband at Inter, emerging as the club's talisman up top in their Scudetto triumph. The Argentinian World Cup winner started the 2023–24 campaign in splendid form and has continued scoring goals for fun since the turn of the year.

Although a move to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the San Siro broke down after he flirted with Juventus, it appeared that Martinez struck up an excellent strike partnership alongside summer recruit Marcus Thuram.

Last summer, Juventus tried to swap the services of Dusan Vlahovic with Chelsea outcast Romelu Lukaku. In the end, the move collapsed, and the Serbian ended up staying at Allianz Stadium, while the Belgian joined Roma on loan.

Although the former Fiorentina goal-machine has largely underwhelmed with his output since his big-money move to Juventus in the winter of 2022, he once again established himself as a force to be reckoned with in Italian football and could finish runner-up in the Serie A Golden Boot race.

Renowned for his imposing frame, lightning-fast turn of pace, lethal finishing, and movement, Napoli's talismanic striker, Victor Osimhen, has been on fire over the past 18 months or so. He is among the best forwards in world football, although he endured a rough patch of form midway through this season.

Overall, the Nigerian sharpshooter looked bright this term despite the Naples-based outfit failing massively in their bid to defend Scudetto.

    4Olivier Giroud | AC Milan | 15 goals

French striker Olivier Giroud has had an immense impact at the San Siro since joining from Chelsea in 2021, helping the side win the Scudetto in 2022, and making it to the Champions League semi-finals last term. Despite being in his twilight years, the 37-year-old continued to be a reliable source of goals for Milan in the 2023–24 season.

Few players can make something happen from nothing quite like Roma's fleet-footed winger Paulo Dybala. The Argentine superstar picked up form in the final few months of the season after an unconvincing start to his second season in the Italian capital, partly down to niggling injury issues.

A No. 10 for much of his career, Hakan Calhanoglu was drawn back by Simone Inzaghi to operate in front of the defence in the customary regista position last season. • Marcus Thuram Inter 2023Getty Images

    9Marcus Thuram | Inter Milan | 13 goals

When Inter signed Marcus Thuram following the expiration of his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach, they had to beat out a fair bit of competition to do so. There was a sense that he was a long-term signing who might take a few months to find his feet.

But that didn't prove to be the case. He well and truly hit the ground running and was more decisive in the final third, alongside goal-machine Lautaro Martinez.

  • Teun Koopmeiners Atalanta 2023-2024Getty Images

    10Teun Koopmeiners | Atalanta | 12 goals

Teun Koopmeiners continues to attract admirers all across Europe, who have been watching him put up stellar performances for Atalanta.

Statistically, Pulisic amassed 12 goals and seven assists during his first season in Serie A, good for the second-most goal contributions on the team.

  • Matias Soule Bologna FrosinoneGetty Images

    13Matias Soulé | Juventus/Frosinone | 11 goals

On loan from Juventus, Soule emerged as one of the most outstanding players in Serie A with his electric performances at the newly-promoted Frosinone, who were a surprise package this season. And it seemed his excellent goal-scoring form caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, such as Newcastle United and Tottenham, who were ready to pay big bucks for his signature.

  • Joshua Zirkzee BolognaGetty Images

    14Joshua Zirkzee | Bologna | 11 goals

The 22-year-old striker also enjoyed a brief stint at Parma and emerged as Bologna's leading marksman this season, surpassing the 10-goal tally.

  • Pinamonti Sassuolo 2022Getty Images

    16Andrea Pinamonti | Sassuolo | 11 goals

A lethal goal-scorer at youth level with Inter Milan, Andrea Pinamonti finally showed signs of reaching his full potential in Serie A away from the Nerazzurri after securing a permanent transfer to Sassuolo last summer.

  • Riccardo Orsolini BolognaGetty

    17Riccardo Orsolini | Bologna | 10 goals

Riccardo Orsolini proved his worth for Bologna this season. The Italian winger featured regularly for Bologna since 2018 after arriving on a loan deal first before the club made the move permanent. The 27-year-old usually featured as a right winger, and his red-hot form helped Thiago Motta's side massively surpass expectations this season by achieving a top-four finish.

  • Domenico Berardi SassuoloGetty

    18Domenico Berardi | Sassuolo | 9 goals

Now 28 years old, Domenico Berardi has spent his entire career at Sassuolo, coming through their youth system and briefly being in a co-ownership status with Juventus, but notably refused a move to Turin. The Italian has been one of the most consistent wide players in Serie A in recent years.

Fresh from penning a new deal until 2027 in Sassuolo, he kicked off the 2023–24 season in superb form this season before a season-ending injury curtailed his season prematurely.

  • Ademola Lookman Atalanta

    19Ademola Lookman | Atalanta | 8 goals

After he racked up 13 goals and six assists in 31 appearances during his debut Serie A campaign, former Fulham and Leicester City attacker Ademola Lookman continued his fine goal-scoring form for Atalanta this season, although niggling injuries hampered his output. He grabbed the spotlight recently as he scored a hat-trick in Atalanta's 3-0 beating of Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League.

  • Politano NapoliGetty Images

    20Matteo Politano | Napoli | 8 goals

  • Andrea Colpani Monza Lecce 17092023Getty Images

    21Andrea Colpani | Monza | 8 goals

Andrea Colpani was one of the key players contributing to the excitement of Monza’s success in Italian top-flight last term, and he is having a strong season in front of goal this time out. If he continues his remarkable form, this could very well be his final season with Monza, with Serie A top guns circling to secure his services.

  • Gianluca Scamacca AtalantaGetty Images

    22Gianluca Scamacca | Atalanta | 8 goals

Italian international striker Gianluca Scamacca faced something of a crossroads during the summer transfer window. He had only joined West Ham United the previous summer. He arrived in East London on a big-money move with high expectations, but the 24-year-old did not manage to make the impact that had been hoped for. However, he is finding his form at the Gewiss Arena under Gian Piero Gasperini and has looked sharp in front of goal.

  • nicolas gonzalezGetty Images

    23Nicolas Gonzalez | Fiorentina | 7 goals

Last summer, Premier League side Brentford reportedly made a club-record £35m bid for Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez. However, their audacious bid was met with a swift rejection from the Viola, who managed to hold on to the highly-talented Argentine playmaker.

That decision is now looking like a masterstroke with each passing day, as Gonzalez has been on a scoring spree for Fiorentina, who are flying high in Serie A.

  • Giacomo Bonaventura FiorentinaGetty

    24Giacomo Bonaventura | Fiorentina | 7 goals

Giacomo Bonaventura has arguably been Fiorentina's best player this season. The 34-year-old elegant attacking midfielder has been Fiorentina's primary creative influence and has also added goals to his game lately.

  • Federico ChiesaGetty Images

    25Federico Chiesa | Juventus | 7 goals

Federico Chiesa, who was strongly linked with a move away from Turin for the majority of this summer, is slowly and steadily regaining his top form under Massimiliano Allegri, reminiscent of his time at Fiorentina and his early days at Juventus, after a serious knee injury in January 2022 halted his progression.

The Italian international has formed a potent attacking partnership alongside former Fiorentina teammate Dusan Vlahovic upfront, which could hold the key to a very good season for Juventus.
