While Cardiff have been on the slide, Wrexham have enjoyed a record-setting run of three successive promotions. On the battle to be top dogs in Wales, Jerome added: “You look at Wrexham and the players they are attracting in this window - back in the Championship after a long time and the calibre of player they are attracting are international players, players that have not long ago been in the Premier League. What they are building and what they have built is brilliant for Welsh football.
“They are setting the bar high now, saying ‘we’re back in front of you guys now and it’s up to you to catch us’. The others have ambitions of their own and are trying to build slowly. It’s up to Cardiff and Swansea to catch those guys up. Swansea were in the Premier League for a number of years, Cardiff had a little bit of a taste of it but dropped out quite quickly and will be looking to try and get back on top and show Wrexham who is No.1.
“Cardiff, for me, are the biggest club in Wales - always have been and always will be, being the capital city. In saying that, it is a bit of a sleeping giant and it would be a great club for someone to pick up who is passionate about football and wants to take that club in the right direction.”
