    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Another former Blancos star, ex-Wales international Bale, forms part of a consortium that is attempting to complete a takeover at Cardiff. His presence would help to deliver a timely boost for the Bluebirds, who have endured a tough time of late and tumbled into League One.

  • WHAT JEROME SAID

Former Cardiff striker Cameron Jerome - speaking with GOAL on behalf of Casino.org, the trusted guide to UK casinos - said when asked if another A-list star could end up in Welsh football: “They do need a boost. They need to be taken into the right hands, under the right stewardship. I feel anyone getting involved there has got a gem of a football club - passionate fan base, large catchment area.

“With a lot going on down the road at Swansea with their own stardust involved in the consortium there, you look at Cardiff and think - being the capital city - they would be able to attract numerous groups and consortiums that want to take them over. Ultimately, it has to be the right person and the right fit for the ownership to sell. It is then up to them to deliver for the fan base and the football club and give them something to be proud of.

“In the last couple of years, they have not really had much success on the football pitch and there have been a number of problems off the pitch. The ownership, currently, is looking like it has probably run its course in terms of the appetite being there to try and take the club forward again. A change is probably what is needed with new ideas, new impetus and a bit of a boost for the football club.”

    DID YOU KNOW?

While Cardiff have been on the slide, Wrexham have enjoyed a record-setting run of three successive promotions. On the battle to be top dogs in Wales, Jerome added: “You look at Wrexham and the players they are attracting in this window - back in the Championship after a long time and the calibre of player they are attracting are international players, players that have not long ago been in the Premier League. What they are building and what they have built is brilliant for Welsh football.

“They are setting the bar high now, saying ‘we’re back in front of you guys now and it’s up to you to catch us’. The others have ambitions of their own and are trying to build slowly. It’s up to Cardiff and Swansea to catch those guys up. Swansea were in the Premier League for a number of years, Cardiff had a little bit of a taste of it but dropped out quite quickly and will be looking to try and get back on top and show Wrexham who is No.1.

“Cardiff, for me, are the biggest club in Wales - always have been and always will be, being the capital city. In saying that, it is a bit of a sleeping giant and it would be a great club for someone to pick up who is passionate about football and wants to take that club in the right direction.”

  • WHAT NEXT?

Wrexham have spent big again in the summer of 2025, but have endured a tough start to the 2025-26 Championship campaign. Swansea have only picked up four points from three games so far, while unbeaten Cardiff are already top of League One with 13 points taken from five fixtures.
