WHAT HAPPENED?

THE BIGGER PICTURE
De Gea was once regarded as one of the world's best keepers but despite winning the golden glove in his last season at United, he left last summer, with the Red Devils signing Andre Onana. While the veteran has been content to wait for the right opportunity, being out of the game for a year is unlikely to help his career.

The Spanish international joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and went onto make 545 appearances for the Premier League giants - winning the Premier League, the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and one Europa League title.

WHAT NEXT?
Free agent De Gea, who has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, will continue to train on his own as he searches for his next opportunity. He may have to consider lowering his wage demands to play for a team again.
