Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Garcia wasn’t even in the mix when the CWC began, but now he’s the reasonable favourite to clinch the title.

There’s a Golden Boot front-runner
There has never been a true, clear favourite for the Golden Boot over the course of the Club World Cup. Several big names have failed to perform as expected, and some outsiders have performed above expectations. However, Gonzalo Garcia is leading the charge ahead of the final stages.
The Spaniard is the only one of the four players who have scored four goals at the competition who’s not been knocked out. Moreover, only one of the nine players who have scored three goals is still in the competition. We take a closer look at the state of play with just four teams left in the competition.
Gonzalo Garcia
Garcia has had a CWC performance that he could only have dreamed of a few weeks ago, having scored four goals and one assist across five games. The 21-year-old was put into action in the absence of Kylian Mbappe and has certainly delivered.
The young forward has started all five matches at the tournament. He is often compared to Los Blancos’ great Raul because of his finishing ability. His team will play against the reigning champions of Europe, Paris Saint-Germain, and he’ll be hoping to add to his tally. Real face their toughest challenge yet, and only time will tell if Xabi Alonso chooses him to lead the line.
Garcia is definitely worth backing. However, it’ll be fascinating to see what Alonso does now that Mbappe is fully fit again.
The current joint leaders
Tied with Garcia at four goals are Benfica’s Angel Di Maria, Borussia Dortmund hitman Serhou Guirassy, and Al-Hilal’s Brazilian star, Marcos Leonardo. Unlike the Spanish youth, though, they won’t have the chance to score any more.
They’ve done well to outscore players such as Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, and there is a chance that nobody will get 5+ in the USA. However, there are plenty who remain in the competition with two or more goals, and they’ll all back themselves to score more. It would have been expected that at least one of those three players would score if their teams had reached the semi-finals, but it didn't happen.
The best they can hope for is a joint win, but someone will outscore them, given that three more games remain.
Pedro Neto (+900)
The Chelsea attacker has had a strong campaign under Enzo Maresca, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists in 2024/25. He additionally demonstrated his quality with three goals in three Club World Cup games before suffering a terrible personal loss just before his fourth match. Despite the tragic passing of close friend Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, Neto took to the field against Palmeiras.
Neto has shown incredible mental strength and nearly played the entire game as Chelsea saw off Palmeiras. He’s expected to start once again against Palmeiras and has a good chance to cause them trouble in New Jersey. A couple more goals in America are definitely still possible for the Portuguese international.
The 25-year-old has had an excellent tournament for the Blues, and it's likely he'll at least match the goal tallies of those currently above him.
