Video: Al-Jaber states Al-Ahli were wronged to benefit Al-Nassr, and the referee’s mistake is inexcusable

Speaking on the Saudi programme “Nadina”, Sami Al-Jaber stated that if Al-Ahli supporters feel aggrieved, the team has indeed been treated unfairly in favour of title rivals Al-Nassr.

He added that Al-Ahli must respond by beating Al-Nassr in their next match.

Al-Jaber also insists the title race is far from over, stating: “The competition isn’t finished, and any side can still win; the opportunity remains for everyone.”

Sami Al-Jaber has called for the Saudi Arabian Football Federation’s Referees’ Committee to open an investigation into the controversial incident, especially after English striker Ivan Toney made public accusations against the match official.

“Joking aside, and regardless of fans’ tweets, Al-Ahli were treated unfairly and the referee failed to apply the rules; he must be punished if found guilty,” Al-Jaber stated.

He added: “The referee’s mistake regarding the penalty cannot be overlooked, and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation must resolve the matter.”

Al-Ahli’s draw has shaken up the title race, leaving Al-Raqi on 66 points in third, two adrift of Al-Hilal.

Al-Hilal, meanwhile, thumped Al-Khulood 6–0 to move within striking distance of Al-Nassr, who are due to take on Al-Akhdoud on Saturday evening.

As a result, Al-Ahli have slipped a place, but their title hopes remain alive with six rounds still to play.
