  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After being left out of the England squad for the clashes against Greece and Ireland, Rashford travelled to the United States and was in attendance as the New York Knicks faced the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA Cup. He was not the only big name in the crowd, though, as NFL legend and Birmingham co-owner Tom Brady and actor Ben Stiller were there too.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Rashford's presence at the basketball match sparked an angry reaction from United fans, with @BudHill4ever summing up the mood by replying: "What a clown".

"I dunno man seeing a player enjoying himself while putting in sub par performances week in week out is the same as seeing the dude who owes you cash splashing out in the club," said @United_Beanz.

X user @Atankpa520879 added: "Instead of him to be on the grass running and working on his shooting he’s outside in New York watching a basketball game."

"Why is he not in training?" asked @peanut111822, while @SullayJr said: "Imagine how crap he has been instead of training getting ready for [Ruben] Amorim he's busy watching basketball... No wonder we've fallen."

Meanwhile, @aobrien7 had a pop at the attacker's former coach, saying: "Watching basketball in person since he doesn’t have to play it any longer under Erik ten Hag."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rashford was treated to an entertaining match as Jalen Brunson scored a three-pointer with six seconds left to secure a 124-122 victory for the Knicks. Rashford was delighted to get a signed jersey from the star, as he wrote on an Instagram post: "Great game, Jalen. Thanks for the [Knicks] jersey. Best of luck for the rest of the season!"

  • WHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD?

United fans are less than impressed by Rashford's trip due to his underwhelming performances for the club this season. The Red Devils faithful will hope that the 27-year-old will be revitalised by new coach Ruben Amorim, who took charge at Old Trafford this week.
