Man Utd's new centre-back? Crystal Palace preparing shortlist of defensive targets as Marc Guehi transfer speculation ramps up

The Red Devils are in the market for a new centre-half and are thought to have Guehi on their transfer shortlist. As a result, the Telegraph writes that Palace have already begun looking for replacements elsewhere, with new boss Oliver Glasner likely to turn to Europe for reinforcements. According to that report, the Eagles would look to sell Guehi for above the club record fee of £50 million ($64m) raised by the sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to United.

Guehi has impressed since signing for £18m ($23m) from Chelsea back in 2021, solidifying his place as an important member of Gareth Southgate's England squad. Naturally, then, he has caught the eyes of other Premier League suitors. Alongside United, Liverpool hold an interest in the 23-year-old, per the Telegraph, while Arsenal and Tottenham have monitored Guehi in the past.

United's approach is thought to stem from potential incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth, who is believed to be an admirer of Guehi. The ex-Newcastle chief is currently on gardening leave from the Magpies, meaning any move from United for Guehi could hinge on his arrival before the summer window.

Whether it's Guehi who comes in as a replacement, United are set for a major defensive shake-up this summer. Raphael Varane looks poised for a transfer to Saudi and Harry Maguire has been consistently linked with a move way, while at 36 years old Jonny Evans seems unlikely to extend his contract. Former Palace man Wan-Bissaka has also been touted to move elsewhere come the end of the season.
