Pep Guardiola is considering going after another midfielder to help compensate for the absence of Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, who is out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. According to The Athletic, Luiz is one of multiple options they have their eye on and are open to signing him on loan with no commitment to buy him at the end of the season. Juventus, though, would rather sell him or add a purchase obligation to a loan deal.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Brazil international has endured a difficult few months since he signed for Juventus from Aston Villa last summer. He has made just 16 appearances in all competitions, only three of which were from the start. The 26-year-old was on the books at City before his 2019 switch to Villa, but he spent that period on loan at Spanish side Girona.
Luiz made the summer move from Birmingham to Turin alongside his girlfriend Alisha Lehmann, who is enjoying a better start to life in Italy having scored two goals in 13 league appearances. If City come calling, he may have to leave her behind to get his career back on track.
