  • Shaw favourited post of team-mates
  • Sparked claims he is happy they're benched
  • United star insists it was an accident
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

A United fan account on social media spotted that Shaw had liked a post sharing a quote from Patrice Evra saying that it will be "tough" for Rashford and Martial to get back into the first-team under Erik ten Hag. Shaw's like sparked suggestions that the defender is pleased about his team-mate's predicament.

  • WHAT SHAW SAID

Shaw replied to the claim that he is taking pleasure from the attacking pair's struggle, saying that he accidentally favourited the post. He wrote on X: "Come on don’t be silly, obviously not intentional."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rashford was dropped to the bench for United's 2-1 win against Chelsea on Wednesday, coming on as a substitute to play just the final six minutes of the Premier League match. Martial, meanwhile, has started only four of the 12 games he has played in the English top-flight this season and was an unused substitute against Chelsea. The pair's absence led to a spike in form for Ten Hag's side, who put in one of their most complete performances in recent weeks.
