Lionesses star Lotte Wubben-Moy reveals why she never checks social media comments as Arsenal defender helps launch campaign to champion body positivity

The England star, who was part of the Lionesses' World Cup squad last year, is an ambassador for Gillette Venus' 'Move Your Skin: Re-write the Rules' campaign, which seeks to normalise seeing real skin in sport and encourage participation among girls.

As part of the campaign, a new art exhibition has been unveiled at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park that features negative comments female athletes have received on social media about their appearance. Team GB Olympians Becky Downie and Emily Campbell are also ambassadors.

Wubben-Moy told Forbes: "I never look at my comments, both good and bad, I try to avoid it. I think the moment you open the door to a good comment, you open the door to twenty bad comments and those bad comments are often the ones that loom largest."

The 25-year-old also opened up on the struggles she has faced as a woman in football.

"The main barrier that I seemed to come across throughout my whole life in football has been that it's a boy's sport," she added. "Everything that comes with that: you look more masculine if you put shorts on, your legs are muscly or your arms are muscly. Those were the challenges that I had to overcome."

Wubben-Moy, who won the European Championship with England in 2022, frequently uses her platform to speak about widespread issues. After the Lionesses' Euros triumph, she instigated a campaign in which the squad wrote an open letter to the UK government demanding girls receive equal access to football.

The defender, who was named Arsenal's Player of the Season for 2023-24, has her eyes set on the Gunners' Round 2 Champions League qualifier, which begins on Wednesday with a first leg tie against Swedish opponents BK Hacken.
