  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The ex-NFL star and Burnley co-owner revealed that Didier Drogba and Chelsea were his introduction to the world's game, and that after he retired, his passion for the Blues made him look into ownership opportunities. His wife, Keali Watt, being a former professional soccer player in the NWSL also inspired him to pursue what he now dubs a 'true passion project.'

  • WHAT JJ WATT SAID

He told CBS Sports: "Near the end of my career I knew I wanted to get into ownership, I just didn't know... I looked at MLS, I looked at NWSL and I also looked at the Premier League and the Burnley opportunity came about and every single box was checked, it was a perfect match. I truly love it, this is my true passion project."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Watt has taken his role as co-owner of the Clarets incredibly seriously, serving as an inspiration for other athletes who are interested in ownership in the game. The 34-year-old has traveled to England for matches, hung out with fans at local pubs and served as an ambassador on social media in the USA. He even went on a VAR rant about a call that did not go Burnley's way earlier this season!
