    SATURDAY GAMES

PREMIER LEAGUE: WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS 2, LEEDS UNITED 2

GOAL verdict: Four games, four defeats - it’s been a nightmare start for Wolverhampton and Vítor Pereira, who find themselves glued to the bottom of the table. Leeds haven’t fared much better, collecting just four points from their opening four matches. This sets up a tense and evenly poised encounter, with no obvious favorite emerging.

PREMIER LEAGUE: CRYSTAL PALACE 2, WEST HAM 1

GOAL verdict: Oliver Glasner’s side may not be at full throttle, but they’ve yet to taste defeat, going unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions. Alongside Chelsea and Liverpool, they’re one of only three Premier League teams  without a loss, setting up a stern challenge for West Ham. The Hammers, meanwhile, have struggled with three defeats in their first four league games, making Crystal Palace strong favorites to claim a comfortable win.

MLS: CHARLOTTE FC 2, NEW YORK CITY FC 1

GOAL verdict: Charlotte FC are one of the league’s form teams, with Dean Smith’s side unbeaten since June 29 and collecting maximum points since the first week of July. Their emphatic 3-0 win over Inter Miami on Saturday only underlines their momentum heading into this clash. NYCFC haven’t fared badly, winning three of their last five league matches. But expect Charlotte to extend their impressive run.

PREMIER LEAGUE: CHELSEA 2, MANCHESTER UNITED 0

GOAL verdict: Much was expected from the Red Devils against Manchester City - but they were soundly beaten. Chelsea, meanwhile, surrendered a 2-1 lead against Brentford and had to settle for a draw. Even so, the Blues remain one of only three unbeaten sides in the Premier League - and it’s difficult to see them leaving this clash without all three points.

NWSL: KANSAS CITY CURRENT 2, SEATTLE REIGN 1

GOAL verdict: The KC Current may hold a comfortable lead at the top of the table, but their work isn’t entirely done. Even so, their position as the NWSL’s first-place team looks secure, with an unbeaten streak now stretching to an impressive 15 matches since their loss to the Reign in early May. While history could repeat itself, the Current should take all three points this time around.

    SUNDAY GAMES

MLS: SEATTLE SOUNDERS 2, AUSTIN FC 1

GOAL verdict: Austin FC remain in the playoff hunt, but their chances are fading as they sit seventh. They trail the in-form Seattle Sounders by just four points, yet the gap seems larger given the Sounders’ momentum. Seattle have lost only once in their last seven league matches and are buoyed by their recent Leagues Cup triumph over Inter Miami. While Austin may offer resistance, it isn’t easy to look past the Sounders in this matchup.

NWSL: GOTHAM FC 3, BAY FC 0

GOAL verdict: Three consecutive wins after a three-game winless run has pushed Gotham FC up the NWSL table into third place. Bay FC, on the other hand, sit near the bottom of the league table and haven’t won a game since they beat Portland Thorns 1-0 in the first week of June. This should be, by all accounts, a comfortable win for Gotham.

MLS: LAFC 3, REAL SALT LAKE 1

GOAL verdict: After a turbulent spell, both LAFC and Real Salt Lake have steadied themselves, though the Los Angeles side enter as favorites. RSL have picked up just two wins from their last five league matches, with a 2-1 victory over Sporting KC snapping a three-game losing streak. LAFC, meanwhile, have lost only once in their last five, collecting two wins and two draws, a run that still gives them the slight edge in this match.
