    SATURDAY GAMES

PREMIER LEAGUE: TOTTENHAM 3, LEEDS UNITED 1

GOAL verdict: Fourth in the table, with only four goals conceded and just one defeat in their first six matches, Tottenham look solid on paper - but haven’t fully convinced. They’ve drawn their last two league fixtures and managed only two wins in their last five. Even so, Leeds shouldn’t pose too big a challenge for Thomas Frank’s side. The Peacocks have shown promise since promotion, but still lack the consistency needed to trouble a team such as Spurs.

BUNDESLIGA: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 2, RB LEIPZIG 2

GOAL verdict: Despite a heavy defeat to Bayern Munich in their season opener, Leipzig have bounced back strongly with four straight league wins. Borussia Dortmund have been equally impressive, stringing together three consecutive Bundesliga victories and sustaining only two losses in their last 20 games across all competitions. It sets the stage for a tight, tense battle with little to separate the two sides and no obvious winner.

PREMIER LEAGUE: LIVERPOOL 3, CHELSEA 1

GOAL verdict: On paper, Chelsea boast one of the deepest squads in the league, but it hasn’t translated into results. They’re winless in their last three league matches and have just one win in their last five across all competitions. Another injury to Cole Palmer adds to their struggles, leaving them vulnerable even against a Liverpool side still finding their best form. The Reds are improving, and while their defeat to Crystal Palace may have offered Chelsea a glimpse of a plan, the likelihood is that Arne Slot’s side walk away with a comfortable win.

MLS: CHARLOTTE FC 2, DC UNITED 1

GOAL verdict: Charlotte’s nine-game winning streak ended a couple of weeks ago, and they’ve since had back-to-back defeats - though their spot in the playoffs is already secured. Even so, DC United will be eager to close out the season on a positive note. They’ve managed just two victories since early June, but it’s hard to see them adding another here, with Wilfried Zaha's side likely to win.

    SUNDAY GAMES

MLS: NEW YORK RED BULLS 2, FC CINCINNATI 1

GOAL verdict: With two games remaining and a five-point mountain to climb, a playoff spot isn’t out of the conversation for the Red Bulls. But it’s still an outside chance. To get there, they’ll need to beat both FC Cincinnati and the Columbus Crew, and it’s not an impossible task. They have won just one in their last five, but Cincinnati have only managed two wins in the same period. Tough task for sure, but not an insurmountable one.

MLS: SEATTLE SOUNDERS 2, PORTLAND TIMBERS 2

GOAL verdict: The Sounders secured their playoff spot last weekend with a 2-2 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps, while the Timbers still have work to do. Portland have just one win in their last five league matches, though they’ve limited their losses to three in that run. Seattle, meanwhile, haven’t picked up a league victory since their Leagues Cup triumph, which could tilt things in the Timbers’ favor. Even so, they’ll need to be at their absolute best to get the result they need.

PREMIER LEAGUE: CRYSTAL PALACE 2, EVERTON 0

GOAL verdict: The only unbeaten team left in the English top flight, 18 games unbeaten across all competitions - and that’s despite losing Eberechi Eze in the summer - Crystal Palace are flying high under Oliver Glasner. There seems to be no stopping them right now, as the reigning champions discovered. And given that Everton are yet to find their groove, everything points towards the Eagles soaring.

    SERIE A: AC MILAN 2, JUVENTUS 1

GOAL verdict: Christian Pulisic’s brilliant form, combined with Massimiliano Allegri’s tactics, has AC Milan flying again, even if a lot of their creativity still runs through the American. As long as he keeps producing, the Rossoneri should remain strong. However, Juventus are one of only three Serie A sides still unbeaten, with three wins and two draws from their opening five games, so they can’t be discounted. The San Siro side will be running high after beating reigning champs Napoli, which gives them the edge going in this contest.
